As part of his research visit from Thursday 10 to Sunday 27 September 2026 at the Department
of Historical and Geographical Sciences and the Ancient World (DiSSGeA, University of Padua), Dr
Moumouni Ouande, a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Geography at Joseph KI-
ZERBO (Burkina Faso) and a member of the AtlaSahel research network, held discussions with colleagues from the Padua research group (Professor Andrea Pase and Mariasole Pepa) on issues relating to the territorial evolution of the Sahel. Based on these discussions, the following topics will form the focus of
future research in Burkina Faso:
– the fastfoodification  in the context of the challenges posed by increasing urbanisation;
– the appropriation of hydro-agricultural developments by local stakeholders;
– the contribution of local or endogenous knowledge to the management of wetlands.
